DigiVillae kicks off in Turin

Officially launched the cross-border project to transform small municipalities into smart villages

On October 16–17 we hosted the kick-off meeting of DigiVillae. This project has a clear vision: to define and test a model that helps small municipalities embark on a path towards sustainable innovation and transforming them into Smart Villages.

Funded by the Interreg VI-A Italy–France ALCOTRA 2021–2027 programme and coordinated by Fondazione Piemonte Innova, DigiVillae will run for 30 months and aligns with the borader framework of EUSALP Alpine Macro-Regional Strategy. Its goal is ambitious yet concrete: to support Alpine and cross-border territories develop local innovation strategies and experiment with digital solutions that improve quality of life, strengthen social cohesion, and enhance existing resources.

During the two-day meeeting, together with project partners — ANCI Liguria, Unione del Fossanese, Unité des Communes Valdôtaines Mont-Rose, Cluster Smart Communities Tech, and AKTANTIS — we reviewed the project’s main objectives and key activities, and shared insights into the local contexts where DigiVillae will be implemented.

Each partner presented their territory, highlighting its needs, priorities, challenges, and opportunities. Together we built a shared vision that Fondazione Piemonte Innova, as project lead, will consolidate in the coming weeks to launch the first operational activities on the field.

The next project meeting will be held online in a few weeks to continue coordination and prepare for the pilot phase. These may include the creation of coworking and smart working spaces, digital training initiatives, local public service hubs, technology labs, and citizen engagement activities.

With DigiVillae, Piemonte Innova reaffirms its commitment to leverage innovation to help people and places, promoting a shared and sustainable model of territorial innovation.
